North End stay top after another big win

It was another big win for Preston, taking their goal tally to thirteen from just three games, and sees them clear of second place Stockport because of their goal difference. Stockport, who are still to concede a goal, were again winners and are the only other club with a 100% record, this time recording a 3-0 home win over Chester.

Rochdale's 2-0 win over Burnley sees them alongside the top two on goal difference but they have played one game more than the other two sides.

Down at the bottom of the league there were first points for two of the four sides on zero after the previous week's games. Accrington picked up a point from a 3-3 draw at Blackpool in midweek and on Saturday Bury won 3-1 at Morecambe to get off the mark.

That leaves the injury hit Clarets and Port Vale, beaten by Shrewsbury, now in search of their first points with only alphabetical order keeping us above Vale at the bottom of the table. Something will have to give this coming Saturday when we travel to Port Vale, a game that will certainly see at least one of us grab our first points.

Walsall and Wrexham were the other winners last Saturday, beating Wigan and Oldham respectively.
