City lost their lead at the top on Monday of this week, but only for 24 hours. Hull took over at the top after coming out on top in their home game against Everton, played at North Ferriby.

Hull named a strong looking line up that included Bernard Mendy, Dean Marney, George Boateng, goalkeeper Tony Warner and their most recent signing Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Everton's only first team experience meanwhile came from goalkeeper Iain Turner, Jose Baxter and James Vaughan.

After a goalless first half it was Hull who went on to win the game with second half goals from George Boateng and Ryan Kendall.

It was one of two games played on Monday, the other seeing Bolton come from behind to win 2-1 at Blackburn. Both teams had strong looking teams out and it was the hosts who went in front through Steven Reid.

Bolton were level by half time with a goal from Javlon Campbell and just after the break Danny Ward scored what proved to be the winner. In their previous game Blackburn had beaten Liverpool with a stoppage time penalty and incredibly they won another spot kick in time added on.

This time Danny Shittu tripped the Blackburn forward and was sent off but Brett Emerton's penalty was saved by Ali Al Habsi to ensure Bolton took the points.

On Tuesday Burnley picked up their first points with that 1-0 win over Sunderland, previously reported, whilst on the same night Manchester City ensured they would be back on top with a 4-3 win at Wigan.

City were never behind in the game. They went in front after just seven minutes through James Poole and Robert Mak doubled that lead before half time. Daniel de Ridder pulled one back from Wigan soon after the break but City then went 4-1 up with a second for Poole and one from David Ball.

Summer target for the Clarets, James McCarthy, pulled one back for Wigan with a 25-yard volley and they got a third with just two minutes to go when left back Olivier Kapo met a cross to hit home a left footed shot from close range. Despite late pressure they couldn't find a fourth goal.

That just left one game to play between Liverpool and Manchester United tonight. David Ngog gave Liverpool an early lead at Prenton Park. With just four minutes gone goalkeeper David Martin launched the ball downfield and Ngog controlled it before heading home past United keeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Liverpool had midfielder Damien Plessis sent off in the first half and in the end they were thankful to man of the match Martin as they hung on to win. It could, and should have been two, but Ngog missed a simple header from five yards.

It all means we are all currently chasing Manchester City after they pulled clear whilst down at the bottom it is Wigan who are the only team without a point.
