Closer to the top after great win at Port Vale

Dean Overson - scored the second goal
We started the day in fifth place and were five points behind Vale but this morning's 2-0 win has seen that gap reduced to two points and now we await news of the other games to see just how much closer we are to the top of the league.

After a close first half it was the young Clarets who went into the break with a lead with a goal in the last minute of the half. It came from a corner with Joe Jackson scoring at the near post to take his goals tally into double figures for the season, and now only three goals behind leading scorer Joe McKee.

Burnley played well in the second half and it was no surprise when, almost 20 minutes in, we doubled our advantage. A free kick was played to Mehdi Lazaar whose shot was turned in by defender Dean Overson from close range, his first goal of the season.

From then on we were in control and never looked as though we might relinquish our lead and saw the game out with few problems.

Next week sees us travel to Preston for a re-arranged game, the fixture having been called off in December, as we continue our push towards the top of the league.

Today's team was: Josh Cook, Ed Williams, Dean Overson, Tom Anderson, Aryn Williams, Shay McCartan (Steven Hewitt 63), Joe McKee (Archie Love 75), Dave Lynch, Tommy Taylor (Ross Wilson 68), Mehdi Lazaar, Joe Jackson.
