Two goals for Ntumba Massanka in Wrexham defeat |
Our game had to be moved to Wrexham due to their being no suitable venue locally and we looked to be heading for the double against the Welsh club when we led 3-1 at half time with goals from Ntumba Massanka (2) and Waqas Azam.
But it all went wrong in the second half with Wrexham scoring three times to take the points, a result that sees Burnley drop to eighth in the table although only one point behind Oldham who have moved up to fifth.
The Burnley team was: Conor Mitchell, Vashiko Dixon, Shaun Hobson, Lewis Norvock, Waqas Azam, Jamal Crawford, Hamam El-Fitouri, Brandon Wilson, Christian Hill, Josh Dolling, Ntumba Massanka. Subs: Marcel Wusiewicz, Andreas Bianga, Brad Jackson, Scott Wilson.
The big winners last week were very much Rochdale. They had two away games at Shrewsbury and Carlisle and won them 4-1 and 5-0 respectively. The first of the wins took them to the top of the league and the second ensured they stayed there when Bury, the previous leaders, also won on Saturday.
Wigan, who had a long run at the top, are now in third place and it would be a surprise now if they were to put in a challenge for the title with a seven point deficit. Having said that, they do have a game in hand and travel to Rochdale this Saturday where a win could change things.
Since dropping to the bottom in February, Accrington haven't been able to do anything wrong. They were only behind Morecambe for a week and have since won four consecutive games which has now taken them up two places and left them 11 points above the bottom club.
There were certainly some surprise results last week, none more so than Fleetwood's win at Tranmere while Shrewsbury's draw at Wigan was a creditable result.
Burnley are officially playing away this Saturday - we face Oldham who will be looking for the double over us having beaten us 4-1 at Carrington in February.
