Burnley remain four points clear in reserve league

Preston were second after last week's games when they produced the result of the season in winning 8-1 at Tranmere albeit with a very experienced side. They included the likes of David Gray, Darren Carter, Paul Hayes, Paul Parry and former Manchester United player Febian Brandy in the starting line up and it proved too much for Tranmere.

Carter got a hat trick, as did Jamie Proctor who came on as a ninth minute substitute. The other scorers for Preston were George Miller and Danny Mayor. Adam McGurk scored Tranmere's goal in the 84th minute but by then they were already seven goals behind.

Oldham were also winners during last week, beating Accrington 1-0 at Stalybridge. It was a disappointing goal that looked to be heading for a goalless draw until central defender James Tarkowski headed home a winner five minutes from time.

in this week's games the only winners were Morecambe who secured all three points with a 1-0 win in their away game against Bury. Morecambe, as always, fielded an experienced team but it was fifteen minutes from the end before Joe Culshaw netted the winner.

That was on Wednesday, and on the same day Wrexham and Accrington shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a game that was played at Airbus UK. Wrexham were in front on 11 minutes through Marc Williams but just before the half hour Peter Murphy equalised from the penalty spot after the kick was controversially awarded for hand ball.

By half time Wrexham were back in front but also down to ten men. They had Lee Fowler sent off for swearing at the referee but just four minutes before the break went back in front when Adrian Cieslewicz rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into the empty net.

Accrington drew level for a second time just past the hour, this time through Andy Owens and the game was then evened up in numbers too when Rory Boulding was dismissed following a bad challenge.

A day earlier Shrewsbury and Macclesfield also fought out a 2-2 draw. Macclesfield opened the scoring in this game through Adam Roberts but Shrewsbury drew level with a Steve Leslie goal which came following a free kick awarded after a back pass to the goalkeeper.

Ben van den Broek gave Shrewsbury the lead and it was 2-1 to the home side at half time. An even second half looked to be heading to a goalless end but, in the very last minute played, Roberts headed his second to get a point for Macclesfield.

Burnley are back in action next Wednesday when we travel to Shrewsbury with the game kicking off at 2:00 p.m. It will be our first game in six weeks.
