Big win takes youths back to seventh

Two goals for Brad Jackson

The young Clarets were very much on the front foot and took a 4-0 lead into the half time interval with all the goals coming in the last twenty minutes of the half.

Brad Jackson kicked it all off with two in two minutes midway through. His first was a close range effort before he hit a shot into the top right hand corner from the left side of the penalty box.

Only a superb double save from the visiting goalkeeper prevented Brandon Wilson getting the third but almost immediately after it came via Ntumba Massanka.

Shrewsbury were hardly in it at this stage but they did force a good save out of Connor King who, we believe, was making his debut. But it was Burnley who ended the half in the ascendancy when Massanka got his second with a tap in right on half time.

Shrewsbury pulled one back early in the second half but there was never any threat of a comeback and, in fact, we hit the woodwork three times before Khius Metz, on as a substitute, got number five three minutes from the end, just before Shrewsbury added their second.

We now go into this afternoon's game against Preston just one point behind them.

Our team on Saturday was: Connor King, Hamam El-Fitouri (Khius Metz 68), Vashiko Dixon, Shaun Hobson, Christian Hill, Jamal Crawford (Billy Grogan 68), Andreas Bianga, Brandon Wilson, Brad Jackson, Ntumba Massanka, Josh Dolling (Tinashe Chakwana 68). Sub not used: Marcel Wusiewicz.

Elsewhere in the league over the weekend, Wigan edged closer to the top again with a win over Walsall whilst current leaders Bury could only draw at Blackpool. It leaves Bury with a two point lead at the top but having played a game more.

There's a change at the bottom too. For the first time this season Morecambe are no longer bottom. They won a week ago and they've followed that up with another victory, this time against Wrexham, to move one point ahead of Accrington who have taken over in bottom place.
