Another change at the top as Clarets move up in Alliance

Last updated : 22 October 2012 By Tony Scholes

It's tight at the top and Carlisle only retained second place because Wrexham and Rochdale fought out a 2-2 draw. Had either of them won that game they would have gone above the Cumbrians who are currently just above Wrexham on goal difference and a point clear of Rochdale.

Carlisle coach Eric Kinder said that Burnley are the only team in the league capable of coming back the way we did. Although we were still without some players, Jack Errington through illness and both Conor Mitchell and Cameron Dummigan on international duty, it was the most experienced side we've been able to field all season.

Besides those results, there were also wins for Blackpool, Bury, Macclesfield, Shrewsbury and Walsall.

Walsall, who had such a good season in 2011/12 have moved into fifth place having beaten Tranmere who are still very much rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point.

The league is somewhat distorted still with Port Vale having played as many as eleven games down to both ourselves and Bury having only played on seven occasions, four games less than Vale.

That will start to balance up this week with only three league fixtures. We played the top of the league team last Saturday and now we have to go and do exactly that again with a trip to face Graham Alexander's Preston this week.

Last Saturday's results, this Saturday's fixtures, Burnley's goalscorers and the current league table are all shown below.
