Worthington steps in at Leicester

Foxes Chairman Milan Mandaric took over at the Crisp Bowl just about two months ago and pledged to back manager Kelly, but at the first sign of a downturn in results he has decided to act although he says he's done it with the deepest and heartfelt regret.

Leicester have just suffered a run of four draws and four defeats since they somewhat fortunately beat us back in February with a John McGreal own goal, and they have dropped down the table and fell below the Clarets on Saturday as we won at Birmingham.

"This is a decision I have not taken lightly, and it has been the cause of endless sleepless nights for me recently," Mandaric said, and added: "As a result of the unexpected change I have taken the decision to appoint the former Norwich manager Nigel Worthington as temporary caretaker manager with immediate effect.

"Nigel will be joined by Doug Livermore as his assistant. They have agreed to take charge for the remaining five games of the season at which time I will review and address the managerial situation. It goes without saying that we all need to get behind Nigel."

Kelly has been in charge since the dismissal of Craig Levein in January of last year, whilst his replacement today was sacked at Norwich shortly after our 4-1 win there in October. There seems little danger of Leicester being dragged into the relegation battle, and it looks certain that with any sort of results Worthington can expect to be appointed as the new full time manager.
