Who is for promotion?

Last Updated : 25-Mar-2002 by

It seemed a couple of weeks ago that Manchester City and Wolves were finally set to take the top two spots and win the automatic promotion places but all of a sudden there has been a stutter and third placed West Brom are back in there with a shout. It is very unlikely that any other side could break into the top two.

Less than a couple of weeks ago I thought that the only club currently below the play off positions with any real hope of getting into them was Birmingham but I never took into account that Millwall, Coventry and ourselves would do all we could to help them by dropping points all too regularly.

In fact Millwall have now lost all their last four league games just as they looked to be almost certainties for a top six finish. It has all left the door open for the likes of Preston, Norwich and Crystal Palace. Whatever happens there is no doubt that Coventry and Palace will have major parts to play. Coventry still have to play West Brom, Preston, Millwall and the Clarets and Palace have games against Norwich, Birmingham, Preston and West Brom.

I do still think that the top six will come from the current top seven clubs and I will now hedge my best and suggest the two automatic places will be taken by two of the top three. In fact if we, and we are fourth, won all our remaining games I don't think it would win us an automatic spot.

The remaining games for each of the top ten clubs are listed below:
