We huffed and puffed

It was a first win in seven games for Doncaster and the win also brought to an end a run of four consecutive defeats, and O'Driscoll was relieved to finally see his side get back to winning ways and stop conceding goals as they have been doing.

"The clean sheet please me the most," he said after a Michael Duff own goal had given them a 1-0 win. "After shipping the number of goals we have shipped and losing another two centre halves, I thought we responded really well.

"We got a little bit of good fortune, which we probably haven't been getting, with the goal, but we stuck to our task. They have a lot of firepower on their bench and we were always a little bit wary, the longer the game went on, that we'd sit a little bit deeper.

"But we got there in the end and I'm pleased. They worked hard and it's been a difficult few weeks for us, but we've stuck in there and it's a nice feeling to win again."

Eddie Howe suffered a defeat for the first time as Burnley manager and described it as a missed opportunity. He said: "In the first half I didn't think we were very good and Doncaster were the better team. In the second half it was vice-versa.

"We were a lot better and conceded the goal when we were on top, which is disappointing. After that we huffed and puffed, but couldn't break them down and didn't work their goalkeeper enough.

"It ended up a night of frustration for us in front of goal, that's the disappointing thing. It's an opportunity wasted and I have said that afterwards to the players because we will find we run out of games very quickly if we don't build some momentum by winning games."
