He said: "It comes down to the bad run of results. It was putting pressure on the club and Chris himself. The poor performances were reflected in our gates dropping off and so action was required because we didn't want to get ourselves into a position where it was not possible to recover.
"At the moment we are just in touch with the teams above us and, had we left it any longer, it would have been impossible."
Graham added: "I am sad to see him go on a personal level because I was one of the ones who backed him in the summer. I thought it was worth a try given that was a local boy who is well respected, but it was a little too soon for him and his experience wasn't strong enough."
Vinnicombe himself admitted that the job had come too soon. "It is hard for any manager to leave a club," he said, "But looking back it was a little bit too soon for me to take the Tiverton job.
"I did 18 months at Witheridge and maybe another year or two at that level or a little bit higher would have served me better. I knew it was going to be a challenge from day one because I had to find players and work to a tight budget.
"It all comes down to results and getting knocked out of the FA Cup at Paulton and losing to Bideford in the FA Trophy didn't help. In the league we weren't winning games and we have been on a bad run recently.
"One thing leads to another and the bigger picture was that the club needed to make a decision that would help to change things. I certainly haven't been put off by this experience, but it is something I am going to learn from."
Meanwhile, two former Burnley loan players were on the move last week. Paul Robinson, the player who Ruud Gullit once played ahead of Alan Shearer for Newcastle against Sunderland, a decision that ultimately cost Gullit his job, moved from Hayes & Yeading to WIndsor & Eton and Steve Guinan has signed on loan for Forest Green Rovers from Northampton Town.
