Unsworth says no to Clarets

Unsworth joined the Clarets just a few days after the start of last season and played over thirty games throughout last season for the Clarets, but he was in and out of the side towards the end of the season and after the last game at Palace was offered the player/coach role.

Owen Coyle confirmed he wouldn't play as often, and also admitted that his pay would be vastly reduced, and it looked very much as though his role will be that of reserve team coach.

Unsworth has taken his time to consider it but has now decided to move on and look to continue his playing career elsewhere. Whether that means Coyle will look to bring in another coach remains to be seen.

Owen Coyle said on announcing Unsworth's decision: "David still wanted to play at the highest level possible and I fully understand that. However, we cannot guarantee him a first team place at Burnley and we made that clear.

"There was an offer on the table that would have meant David taking a significant hit financially, but equally would have given him the opportunity to move into coaching However, after having a chat we have amicably decided on a parting of the ways.

"I am genuinely sorry to see David go. He is a true professional and a really good guy and he leaves with all our best wishes."
