Turf Moor debut for Eltringham

Last updated : 20 August 2010 By Tony Scholes
The 31-year-old Eltringham was previously a Football League assistant referee but stepped up for the 2009/10 season and his first game was the League Two game between Morecambe and Hereford on the opening day of last season.

It was February when he got his first game in the Championship. That came at Hillsborough on the day Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackpool 2-0. Until now, that game remains his only appearance in the Championship. There were no cards in that game, to date his only card free game.

In total he refereed 21 games last season and he handed out 56 yellow cards and six red cards. The yellow cards were even, with 28 to both home and away players, although all but one of the red cards went to away team players.

This season, like Grant Hegley at Ipswich last week, he's sent off players on each of the first two Saturdays. One the opening day of the season he dismissed Chesterfield's Craig Davies in their 2-1 home win against Barnet and last week saw Gary Naysmith of Huddersfield sent off in their 0-0 home draw against Tranmere.

Besides those two games he's also refereed Rochdale's 1-0 win at Barnsley in the Carling Cup and in those three games, besides the two red cards, there have been eight yellows with three going to home players and five to away players.

In that last game at Huddersfield, there were also the first yellow for Naysmith and yellow cards for Tranmere's Enoch Showunmi and Nick Wood.

Eltringham will make his way onto our Rate the Ref table after tomorrow's game.

The assistant referees tomorrow are Chris Akers (South Yorkshire) and Danny Gratton (Staffordshire). The fourth official is Richard Bartlett (Cheshire).
