Tommy Cummings
Tommy has recently been in hospital but has suffered with illness for quite some time and having been re-admitted he passed away last night in hospital in Blackburn.

He was a Burnley player from the 1940s through to the 1960s when he left to become player/manager of Mansfield before moving on to manage Aston Villa. Tommy had played a total of 479 first team games for Burnley and scored three goals.

One of those goals will forever be remembered, coming on 5th January 1952 in a win against Newcastle. It is still considered to be the greatest goal ever scored at Turf Moor.

On his retirement from the game he entered the licenced trade and was landlord at the Shooters initially and then moved to a pub in Haggate.

In more recent years he was employed as a match day host by Burnley Football Club, until health problems forced him to stop.

Our thoughts are very much with his wife Joy, his family and friends at this very sad time.
