Three midweek games but little change

Last updated : 17 March 2011 By Tony Scholes

So, Phil Brown has finally done it. He was appointed as Preston manager on 5th January and their 3-0 win at Scunthorpe was their first win in 13 attempts since his appointment and a first win for Brown since the beginning of February last year when Hull beat Manchester City.

The win has moved them within four points of Sheffield United but they remain ten points from safety. A Scunthorpe win would have seen them edge to within one point of to Crystal Palace but they turned in one of their worst performances of the season and conceded three goals in an eleven minute spell in the first half.

The performance and result cost Ian Baraclough his job whilst for Preston and Brown it gives them a glimmer of hope after winning what he'd said was their biggest game of the season.

Whilst Scunthorpe failed to get within one point of safety so we failed to get within one point of the play offs after drawing with Scunthorpe and in the other game played it was another 3-0 away win, this time for Watford at Ipswich.

We've just gone one set of fixtures remaining before the last international break of the season with Burnley travelling to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City.

Tuesday's result and the stats are shown below along with the league's leading goalscorers, each club's disciplinary record and Saturday's fixtures.
