Thomas has been training with Doncaster for a week and played in their pre-season games against West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday. He impressed in both as Doncaster kept two clean sheets.

Manager Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed they will hold talks to try and persuade the 31-year-old Thomas to sign for the club. "We have chatted to Wayne Thomas' representatives over he weekend and decided what we are going to do, or what we can do with Wayne," O'Driscoll said.

"He hasn't done anything wrong on the pitch. I think he has got one or two things in the pipeline, but the season is a week away. The thing with 'things in the pipeline' is that they are fine but you need some concrete offer.

"I can envisage us making some kind of deal - whether it gets accepted, I'm not too sure."

Thomas joined Burnley in the summer of 2005 and was with the club for just over two years. He never came close to being popular with the Turf Moor crowd and many Burnley supporters claim it to be one of the best pieces of business we ever did when Steve Cotterill sold him to Southampton for £1.2 million just a few days into the 2007/08 season.
