Thomas on the way back

Manager Steve Cotterill immediately feared the worst and that was confirmed a day later with news that Wayne had snapped his anterior cruciate ligament and his medial ligament as well as damaging a cartilage at the back of the knee.

The news was that he would be in a brace until the medial ligament repaired after which he would undergo surgery to repair the cruciate ligament – and there was no way we could expect to see him playing until next season.

But over the last two to three weeks there have been reports of Wayne cycling and using equipment such as a rowing machine and rumours spilling out, even from Stoke web sites, that he was on his way back to fitness.

Clarets Mad learned last week that it was possible that Wayne’s anterior cruciate ligament had re-attached itself to the posterior cruciate ligament, not as though we actually understood that.

It has proved to be correct and Wayne is now back in rehabilitation with suggestions that he could well be fully fit and available by Christmas. It is tremendous news for the Clarets and more so for the player himself and manager Steve Cotterill, although still playing it all down, said, “We could, and I say could, have a big boost with Wayne Thomas in the fact that his anterior cruciate ligament has re-attached whilst he has been in a brace to repair the medial ligament.

“He has been to see two surgeons who have said he needs to go away and try it out and at the moment he is rehabilitating with physio Andy Mitchell. We are waiting to see how it goes but we are not putting any pressure or deadlines on Wayne.

“It would be an unbelievable boost to the club, myself and Wayne Thomas if we get him back.”

It is fantastic news that gives us all a further boost on top of the three wins last week and hopefully Wayne will be back with us sooner than we ever dared hope.
