The referee - a reminder of Wembley

Last updated : 25 September 2009 By Tony Scholes
Before that game he'd been intimidated by Blades' boss Kevin Blackwell and after our victory he wasn't happy with some of the decisions. But Dean had a good game that day just as he'd done in our FA Cup tie at West Brom a few months earlier.

He's not always had good games, and he certainly upset Bradford City manager Nicky Law back in 2002 when he fell for the theatrics of Dimitrios Papadopoulos. Overall though he's caused us few problems.

This season has seen him busy with his yellow cards. In just five domestic games so far he's handed out no fewer than 23 of them including nine in one game between Manchester United and Arsenal. Nine of those cards have gone to home team players, fourteen to away team players.

There is no Blackwell tomorrow and he's not Steve Tanner so 'Arry shouldn't be too upset. The same result we had last time Dean refereed us would go down just fine.

The assistant referees are Ceri Richards (Carmarthenshire) and Simon Beck (Bedfordshire). The fourth official is Andy Penn (West Midlands), a Football League referee who for me is one of the best referees in the country.
