Take a Scarf to the Turf

By Andy Robinson
Sunday, 18th November 2001
The Club are hoping for a crowd of 18,000 for this Friday’s visit of Grimsby Town following the £5 entry fee initiative and a crowd of this size at Turf Moor normally guarantees a good atmosphere but how about adding a splash of colour?
Do you remember buying your first Burnley scarf? I do and for me and many others ‘The Scarf’ was a treasured possession. I think that I have about 5 in total now but I haven’t worn one at a game for years.

How about this in Claret and Blue?
Then one of the Dutch Clarets sent me this recent picture of the fans of NAC Breda and I thought wouldn’t it be great to see that at Turf Moor again. It really did used to be like that at Turf Moor with wall to wall Claret and Blue.

So if you are attending Friday’s game with Grimsby the plea is a simple one: TAKE YOUR BURNLEY SCARF WITH YOU!

Everyone is hoping that Friday night will go with a swing and I thought it would be nice to see the old place with a bit of colour inside it again. I must admit that my market research for this idea has consisted of 5 people who all thought it was a good idea but time is short and for this to be a success we need people to spread the word.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some Burnley fans don’t have a Claret and Blue scarf, as they don’t seem to be the essential item that they once were. As luck would have it, Friday marks the official opening of the new Clarets Superstore but it is open for business already so why not get yourself down there and buy one. I have 5 and even I am thinking of purchasing a new one for the occasion! Remember that Stan will need every penny for next season's Premiership campaign!

Going into the game with Grimsby we will either be top of the table or need just a point to go back there as Crystal Palace play in mid week so it promises to be a special night. A win would really consolidate our position and make for a relaxing Saturday for a change.

Wearing a scarf will probably not make any difference to us winning or losing but colour and noise and passion might just make it more exciting so get behind the Clarets on Friday and sing and shout and don’t forget to wave your scarf!
