Sarginson to referee Barnet cup tie

Last updated : 26 August 2011 By Tony Scholes

Sarginson joined the Football League list for the 2008/09 season and has officiated mainly in the lower two divisions, although he did referee six Championship games last season.

One of those games was Burnley's 3-2 home win against Watford when he had a decent enough game and won a rating of 65.60 on the RATE THE REF feature.

He's been fairly consistent with his cards over the three seasons, averaging around 3 yellow cards per game. Last season, in 32 games, he handed out a total of 98 yellow cards.

It looked as though it was going to be a very quiet season for him with red cards but a flurry in March and April took his total to 6.

Two of those red cards were in Championship games. He dismissed Coventry's Aron Gunnarsson in a 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich and his last red card of the season was Paul McShane, sent off in Barnsley's 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

His 2011/12 season didn't start until three days ago when he refereed the League One clash between Charlton and Scunthorpe at the Valley, a game that ended 2-2.

There were three yellow cards in this game, to Danny Green of Charlton and Scunthorpe's  Sam Togwell and Niall Canavan.

The assistant referees tonight are Anthony Tankard (South Yorkshire) and Richard Wigglesworth (Doncaster). The fourth official is Gordon Johnson (Liverpool).
