Rushton is another first time referee

Rushton, from Staffordshire, joined the Football League list ahead of the 2008/09 season having followed in the footsteps of his dad, Jim Rushton, who was a Football League referee from 1987 to 1996, and tomorrow will see him referee both Burnley and Portsmouth for the first time.

A Championship game is not commonplace for him and tomorrow will be just his fifth. The first of those five came in his second season when he refereed Swansea's 4-0 home win against Preston last season.

There was just one more game at Championship level last season and so far this season there have been two more, Doncaster v Hull in September and Cardiff v Crystal Palace last month.

This season he has refereed 17 games in which he's issued 53 yellow cards and 4 red cards. Of those yellow cards, 26 have gone to home team players and 27 to away team players.

All but one of the red cards have gone to away team players and that includes Vinnie Durant of Redbridge who he sent off in his last game a week ago in their 5-0 FA Cup defeat at Crawley. Redbridge's Matt Turpin was the only player yellow carded in that game.

The assistant referees tomorrow are Ken Haycock (West Yorkshire) and Gary Hilton (Lancashire). The fourth official is Matthew Bristow (Manchester).
