Reserve game called off

Last updated : 28 January 2004 By Tony Scholes

The club had decided not to use the under soil heating and had because of the expected bad weather overnight arranged for an inspection at 11:00 a.m. today. Although the weather was not as hostile as forecast, and despite the fact that the temperatures are way above freezing the pitch was in fact frozen.

The postponement means that Preston are unable to give their new signing Craig Burley a run out before their trip to Sunderland on Saturday and it also means no chance to sharpen their fitness for the likes of Luke Chadwick, Arthur Gnohere, Dean West and club captain Graham Branch who were all expected to play.

It is nine weeks since the reserve team had a home game and we must now wait another three weeks before the next one when Sheffield United are our visitors. There is no new date for the Preston match.

The Clarets are back in the bottom two with Hull having won a recent game but cannot go bottom again today with Barnsley’s game against league leaders Walsall also falling victim to the weather as have all of the five scheduled fixtures.

Today’s postponed fixtures are:

Barnsley v Walsall
Burnley v Preston North End
Hull City v Huddersfield Town
Stoke City v Bradford City
Tranmere Rovers v Sheffield Wednesday
