They won 4-0 with four different scorers on a day that saw three players yellow carded in the game with all three of them having previously played for Burnley. For QPR, new signing Bradley Orr saw yellow as did both Stephen Foster and Jay McEveley for Barnsley in a game that saw a fourth ex-Claret in action with Andy Gray up front for Barnsley.
Whilst on the subject of ex-Clarets, there was a return to the Championship for our former manager Steve Cotterill. He must have felt it was like going back six years in time when he couldn't name a full bench for Portsmouth's game at Coventry.
I read he was moaning about it a bit but he should be thankful he's still in work given that his club, in all honesty, are the luckiest alive to still be in business. As it happened, he managed to find four for his bench (Mark Yates wasn't available or it would have been five), but they weren't the only side to fall short on substitutes.
In today's game at Cardiff neither side had a full bench. Cardiff, like Portsmouth, only had four subs whilst opponents Sheffield United were able to name six. Swansea too, in their defeat at Hull, only had six substitutes.
Well done to Danny Graham of Watford and Coventry's Freddy Eastwood. Both scored twice for their respective clubs and are the early front runners in the list of leading scorers.
The weekend stats are all below, along with those two names in the leading scorers and the disciplinary records of each club (these will include cup games over the season as they are included towards suspensions). Please note, however, that Cardiff, should any of their players face suspension, will win their appeal with the FAW.
We also include next week's fixtures.
