Pollitt takes coaching role

Hughes was goalkeeping coach at Turf Moor for a number of years but was one of the exodus to Bolton in January 2010, leaving with Steve Davis after the two had been placed in caretaker charge.

That caused problems with at least one senior goalkeeper demanding a return for Fred Barber which left Bolton with two goalkeeping coaches for a time.

Hughes moved to Wigan last summer and survived the departure of Owen Coyle until today.

Pollitt, who played just four games for us before Wigan recalled him, signed a new deal at Wigan not too long ago despite being past his 42nd birthday. However, he's finally hung up his playing gloves to take on this new role.

"To have an opportunity to begin my coaching career at a top Championship club, working with international goalkeepers, was too good to miss," he said today whilst manager Rösler said: "Mike has been a top goalkeeper with huge experience and I think he will be a great coach.

"We talk about giving young players a chance and it should be the same for young coaches. Mike is a real student of the game and has absorbed so many ideas from the people he has worked with over the years. He has some fantastic experience which he will now be able to pass on."

That experience has seen his playing career end after 499 league appearances for eleven different clubs with 271 of those games coming for Rotherham in two spells between 1998 and 2005.
