Pearson gets Saints job

It was expected that they would continue with caretakers John Gorman and Jason Dodd, probably until the end of the season, but out of the blue they have given the job to Pearson today.

Supporters are not happy and their Independent Supporters Association chairman has spoken out against the appointment as has former Saints star Matt Le Tissier. They and many supporters contacting Sky Sports News have spoken out about it being a cheap appointment and claim the club is at its lowest ebb in years with Pearson's arrival hardly helping.

Micky Adams or Iain Dowie seem to have been the choices but Pearson, who was caretaker at West Brom between Robson and Mowbray, and then at Newcastle post Roeder and Allardyce, has been given the job on a rolling contract.

The Saints board have admitted they have reacted quickly to the FA Cup defeat at Bristol Rovers and at a time when Gorman claimed no one could have done better than he and Dodd as he confirmed there were no relegation fears despite their 18th place in the league.

Both Gorman and Dodd will remain at St. Mary's working alongside the new manager.
