Young Mansfield Town central defender Tom Naylor has been on trial with the Clarets but has returned to Mansfield and played in this afternoon's Blue Square Premier League game against Grimsby Town at Field Mill.

Burnley were the third club to have taken Naylor on trial in recent weeks. He'd just returned from a week at Fulham and had previously been at Derby whilst two League One clubs did have offers turned down for him.

It doesn't look as though Burnley are going to be looking to push anything through just now. We could have taken him on loan with a view to a permanent move in January and although he's impressed during the last few days it has been reported that it is more likely that we will continue to monitor the situation whilst he continues to play for Mansfield where he is very highly rated.

He'd just returned from his second suspension of the season today and helped Mansfield to all three points against Grimsby, a game that would have taken place in the Football League just four seasons ago.

Having gone a goal behind in the first half they came back to win the game 2-1 as they push towards the top places in the league.
