Moss to referee us for third time this season

Moss, now aged 44, is based in Horsforth in West Yorkshire but was born in Sunderland and he started his refereeing career in the North East, but this only started when he ended his playing career which involved playing at academy level for both Sunderland and Millwall.

He became a Football League referee in 2005 and was awarded his first Premier League game in December 2010 but he had to wait another month when that game, between Wigan and Aston Villa, was postponed. His first game was Birmingham v Blackpool in January 2011.

He hasn't operated outside of the Premier League this season, other than for cup ties, and it  was in early April last year when he last refereed a Football League game.

He's refereed a total of 24 games this season in which there have been 81 yellow cards and seven red cards. Of those yellows, 29 have gone to home team players and 52 to away team players.

One of the red cards saw former Claret Charlie Austin sent off against us at Loftus Road in December and more recently he red carded Everton's Gareth Barry in their 1-0 defeat at Chelsea.

His most recent game was the 2-2 draw between Spurs and West Ham last week. There were just two yellow cards and they were given to West Ham's Aaron Cresswell and Mark Noble.

Our biggest problems with Moss have been in the away games, particularly at Middlesbrough in 2010 and at Forest later in the same season when he wrongly dismissed Marvin Bartley under pressure from their players and manager Billy Davies. I don't think we can apportion any of the blame for the West Brom defeat at his door though.

Moss is currently 17th out of 18 in RATE THE REF with a rating of just 56.81 out of 10.

The assistant referees are Peter Kirkup (Northamptonshire) and Eddie Smart (West Midlands). The fourth official is Michael Oliver (Tyne & Wear) whose only Burnley game this season was our opener at home against Chelsea.
