McVeigh, Spicer and Plymouth

Paul McVeigh - set for Plymouth trial
Paul McVeigh ended last season at Turf Moor after signing from Norwich on loan in March and his goals and performances certainly helped as our form improved and we pulled away from the bottom of the league with five wins in six games. The first of his three Burnley goals came against Plymouth on the night when our luck finally changed with a 4-0 win and now he could be set to sign for the Pilgrims.

Holloway was keen to sign Kevin Gallen, released by QPR. He was at Plymouth at the end of last season on loan and it was thought he would join his former manager on a permanent basis. Gallen turned them down and opted to play League Two football with Franchise instead, and that has left Holloway searching for a similar player.

He said: "We will be having a look at Paul McVeigh who is currently out of contract. Not having Kevin Gallen, I would like to have a look at someone else. I might need someone else on the right hand side who can do a dual role if we get some injuries."

If McVeigh is going to Plymouth then what about John Spicer? Out of the blue speculation is mounting that Holloway might just be set to put a £300,000 offer in for him. There's nothing to substantiate it, and it is thought that Plymouth wouldn't necessarily be looking for a midfielder.

Whether or not there is any interest, he played for us today in the friendly and will be boarding a plane tomorrow for Austria with the rest of the squad. A move to Plymouth at this stage looks unlikely with Spicer remaining at Turf Moor.
