McGhee could make move for Gifton

The manager, who has a young squad, has called for patience and says they will need time and will improve as the season progresses. But he has admitted that he is looking to strengthen that squad with the loan signing of a striker.

He has apparently turned his attention to the Premiership in his search for a new front man, and has contacted Manchester United, Spurs and Sheffield United, but the news on the streets in Sussex is that none of Saha, Keane and Akinbiyi are likely to be available to him, even on loan.

His main target has been young Spurs forward Lee Barnard who has now been ruled out for the next five weeks with injury and McGhee has said he has not ruled out a move to take Gifton Noel-Williams back to the Withdean on loan again.

He had a spell there at the end of last season and McGhee was keen to take him permanently during the summer, one of nine clubs wanting to sign him. But the deal fell through and time will now tell whether another move is made to sign the player still on the Turf Moor transfer list.
