Clarets held to a draw by Wednesday on a Tuesday!

Sheffield Wednesday 1 v Burnley 1.

Despite our recent run of winning form we were unable to dominate this game after being held to a 1-1 draw at the home of the Owls last night.

We ultimately managed to stretch our Championship unbeaten run to six games at Hillsborough following Andre Gray’s early strike. This was Andre’s 18th of the season and it looked for the entire world we would continue the dominance we have shown in recent matches.

The Owls however are made of stern stuff and our lead was snuffed out by a Kieran Lee strike immediately following resumption of the contest.

This really was a wonderfully hard-fought match between two clubs with clear promotion winning credentials. In the end, both sides had to settle for a point each. It looked like normal service had resumed for the Clarets when Gray poked home within three minutes of the start.

The Clarets were however unable to add to our early advantage. Keiron Lee replicated our early first half strike and scored from close in after 48 minute. Big Sam Vokes, probably should have settled it for the Clarets in the second half but somehow missed a great opportunity to score with a fluffed volley at the back post. It looked then like both sides had decided to shut up shop and settle for a point apiece.

Post match, both managers seemed to agree that a draw was a fair result and who am I to argue?

A valuable away point was gained from a serious promotion rival, so no real damage done. We owe the Tigers a mauling. Bring on Bruce’s brigade on Saturday? UTC!
