Mahon could go back where he started

New Tranmere boss John Barnes has offered Mahon an invitation to join the squad for pre-season training and should things work out he could go back to the club for whom he played almost 150 games before leaving for Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2000.

Mahon was one of three players released by Owen Coyle a week after the Wembley win. Goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly quickly signed a deal with TSV Munich that will see him playing his football at the Allianz Arena for the next two years.

The third was Steve Jones who was with Bradford City on loan until the end of the season. There has been no news on him with the West Yorkshire club unlikely to pursue a permanent deal because of the financial position there.
