Legend at Palace

Taylor himself was in the running for the job at the Valley but pulled out around the same time as Dowie was closing the door behind him at Selhurst Park. He hinted that he'd been offered the Charlton job but decided to show some loyalty and stay with Hull, also suggesting that his family were happy living in the area.

That loyalty has lasted all of a few weeks and now he's off on his travels again, to the club where he gained England honours as a player whilst playing 3rd Division football thirty years ago, he won all his four caps as a Palace player before moving on to Spurs.

His managerial career started with Dover and he has since moved on to Southend, Gillingham, Leicester and Brighton before joining Hull in October 2002. His stay on Humberside has been considerably longer than anywhere else and he's seen them climb two divisions to their current position in the Championship.

Besides that he has twice managed the England Under-21 squad and was in charge of the full side for one game against Italy, appointing David Beckham as captain for the first time.

Today though, he's decided to leave Hull and has become manager of Crystal Palace, the seventh change of manager at Selhurst Park this side of the Millennium, and leaves Hull looking for a new manager less than eight weeks before the start of the new season.
