Lafferty off to New York with the Millers

Lafferty, who was a January 2012 signing from Derry City, has made just two first team appearances this season. He came on as a substitute for Ben Mee in the home league win against Southampton and started the FA Cup tie against Spurs at home.

That league appearance was his 40th for the club but was his first since January of last year when he played some games over the Christmas period because of an injury to Ben Mee.

With Stephen Ward fit again, he's now been given the opportunity to spend a month at the New York Stadium and he explained that it was a move he learned of only yesterday.

Speaking to Rotherham, he said :"I travelled with Burnley to Liverpool for preparation for the game last night. Then I got the phone call yesterday afternoon and spoke to Sean Dyche the manager and he confirmed it.

"It all moved quite quickly and by the middle of yesterday I knew I was coming here and it was all done and dusted."

Looking forward to the next month, he added: "Game time has been quite hard to come by at Burnley this year. The manager keeps the same team quite regularly so it's quite hard for the guys on the fringes to get minutes on the pitch. I'm definitely looking to achieve some game time and some experience here.

"I like to get forward like a modern day full back and understand you have to have the engine to get up and down the pitch. I'll be looking to use these attributes to help Rotherham, put in some good performances and hopefully get some good results along the way."

Rotherham are currently just one place outside of the relegation zone having won promotion via the play-offs last season, but they do hold a six point lead over Wigan and Millwall, the two clubs directly below them.

Danny will go straight into their squad for the away game against Huddersfield this Saturday.
