Kalvenes is signing number three

Kalvenes looked almost certain to return to Norway to play for his first club SK Brann but Owen Coyle stepped in and offered him a two year deal to sign for the Clarets and Kalvenes has agreed to the deal.

He's been with the Arabs for two years and made his debut for them in August 2006 in an SPL game at Ibrox against Rangers. He scored in that game too, putting his side 2-0 in front before Rangers came back to earn a point from a 2-2 draw.

He's not exactly a goal scoring full back and that was one of just three goals he's scored for the Tannadice club. One was in the League Cup and his only other SPL goal also came against Rangers, this time at home in April of this year. He gave them a 1-0 lead in a game that ended 3-3.

It was always his intention to quit at the end of the season and he all but confirmed he would return to Norway. But Owen Coyle stepped in and offered him this two year deal and he now joins up with the Clarets for the 2008/09 season, becoming Coyle's third signing this week.

He certainly comes with the recommendation of his Dundee United manager Craig Levein, the former Leicester boss. Levein spoke to Owen Coyle about Kalvenes and has said: "Owen Coyle phoned me to ask about Christian and my reaction was to tell him to sign him straight away.

"He's a great lad and a fantastic player so I'm thrilled for him to get a chance to play at that level. I can't speak highly enough about him. He left us last season to go back to Norway but things have changed and this opportunity has presented itself to him.

"I loved working with him and I'm sure he'll be a great addition to their squad."
