John B stands down in boardroom changes

In May 2012, Barry Kilby stood down after over 11 years as chairman. He'd revealed in February that he'd be doing so after confirming he was fighting prostate cancer. After an end of season board meeting, the announcement came on 26th May that John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick would be the club's first ever co-chairmen.

However, three years on, and the club will no longer have co-chairmen. Today's news confirms that, with immediate effect, Garlick will become sole chairman with John B standing down from the chair although continuing as a member of the board.

I can't say I know Mike Garlick. I've spoken to him twice and on the last occasion, just over a year ago, he was critical of Clarets Mad, referring to it as negative. I certainly wish him well in his new role as chairman as the club prepare for a return to the Championship.

John B (pictured above in August 2012 at the opening game of the season against Bolton) is very much a different story. I met him in late 2010, not long after he'd joined the board. I've got to know him well since and he and his wife Tracy have become very good friends.

I don't think John does negative; he's infectious and everything is always positive with him. He's been a real driving force behind some of the big decisions made in the last three years.

That certainly includes such as the Turf Moor and Gawthorpe buy back and he's been a big influence in moving forward with the work now being carried out at the training ground. He was also heavily involved in the appointment of Sean Dyche whilst also pushing to get transfers over the line, some successful and some, perhaps, not quite so. He steps down with the club eagerly awaiting a decision that will give them the go ahead on the full re-development of Gawthorpe.

I'm delighted he'll still be involved as a director whilst this change will allow him to direct more of his time to his family and business.
