Jensen will want out in the summer

He remained on the list until new boss Eddie Howe arrived and once the two spoke he was persuaded to withdraw that request and fight for his place in the team.

That place hasn't come and, after a recent difficult game, Howe made it clear that Lee Grant was his number one choice. And should that remain the case until the end of the season then Burnley can expect another formal transfer request from Jensen who will have one year remaining on his best ever Burnley contract.

His agent Mickey Walsh, the former Blackpool striker who once won Match of the Day's Goal of the Season, spoke about the situation and said: "Obviously at this stage of his career he wants to play football, whether that's at Burnley or somewhere else.

"He has spoken to the manager and they are aware he is not happy, but at the same time he is working hard to try to win a place. And they've had a lean spell, so who knows?

"It's more than likely a decision will be made at the end of the season. Obviously Burnley would need a replacement before they could let him go."

Jensen, Burnley's longest serving player, has played in 294 league and cup games for the club, but hasn't appeared in any Burnley team since the 4-0 home defeat against Reading in October of last year.

He had previously handed in a formal transfer request during the 2006/07 season following the signing of Wigan's Mike Pollitt on loan but on that occasion regained his place later in the season and withdrew the request.
