Jay Rod goal wins March award

Add to that, the other goal was a three yard tap in from Nathan Delfouneso on his debut at Hull and there was little competition for him. However, two of his three goals were worthy of winning any of this season's monthly awards.

The first, the early winner against Crystal Palace, was a brilliantly struck shot from distance that left visiting goalkeeper Lewis Price helpless and the second was the goal that gave us the lead against Coventry when he received the ball from Tyrone Mears, skipped past a defender and then chipped it over the advancing Kieren Westwood.

It was the Coventry goal that won it with no less than 56.3% of the vote and gives Jay, like Chris Eagles, a second monthly winner this season. His goal against Crystal Palace took second place with a 38.3% share of the vote.

He couldn't quite get the top three. Delfouneso's came third with 3.3% and Jay's headed equaliser in the Coventry game took fourth and last place with 2.2% of the vote.

So the first Coventry goal is guaranteed a place in the Goal of the Season vote which will be held after the last monthly vote. All the monthly winners and the best runners up will be chosen.
