It's time for the last goal of the month vote

March ended with a 2-0 defeat against Leicester but there was only one more defeat to come as the Clarets marched through April and one game in May with four wins, two draws and one defeat, scoring eight goals and conceding just four.

April started with a tough game at Watford, made tougher with the fact that Sam Vokes and Dean Marney (suspended) had joined Kieran Trippier and Danny Ings on the sidelines.

For some time in that game we were a goal behind but with not long to go Scott Arfield turned superbly on the edge of the box to take a pass from Chris Baird and shoot into the bottom corner.

It was on to Barnsley next and a second Burnley goal for Ashley Barnes, heading home a Michael Kightly cross at the near post .

An assist for Kightly but he was soon to take centre stage in terms of goals during the month. After a 1-0 defeat at home to Middlesbrough it was Kightly who scored the only goal of the game at Blackpool to give us a 1-0 win.

Having received the ball from Kieran Trippier out wide, he played the ball in for Dean Marney, moved inside to take the return and then manoeuvred himself to the edge of the box before placing his shot brilliantly into the corner.

Three days later, in the promotion clincher against Wigan, both Barnes and Kightly got their second goals of the month.

Barnes opened the scoring, volleying home a cross from Marney which brought to an end a move that had started with Tom Heaton, featured eight of our players and with some superb one touch football.

Kightly doubled the lead almost on half time with an outstanding free kick from the left hand side that found itself in the far corner of the net.

Kightly wasn't finished either. On the last Saturday of the month he got his third entry as we beat Ipswich 1-0. Only a brave block from Dean Gerken prevented Danny Ings from scoring but Kightly was quickly onto the rebound to stroke the ball into the empty net.

In the one remaining game, played at Reading on the first Saturday in May, we found ourselves a goal behind but led 2-1 before having to settle for a point.

Arfield got the first, firing home from the penalty spot after good work from Kightly and Marney, and Marney set up Ings who made sure he had at least one goal in each month vote, turning well and firing into the bottom corner.

That's eight goal. Kightly got three of them and there were two each for Arfield and Barnes and one for Ings.

You can vote via the front page of the site or the VOTING POLLS page, and the voting will run until the end of Friday after which the winning goal will join the other eight monthly winners in the goal of the season vote.
