He was heavily involved in the signing of Ian Wright just over a year later, with Wright himself confirming that without Ingleby's financial input towards his wages he would not have signed for the club.
He was also an influential figure in ensuring the club didn't go into administration following the collapse of ITV DIgital, the chairman praising him for his work in ensuring creditors would accept deferred payments.
He is, though, better known as the brash businessman from America who tried to take over the club during 1998, featured heavily on Radio Lancashire phone ins where he once branded then chairman Frank Teasdale as being unable to organise a piss up in a brewery.
Ingleby said today: "With great regret I have decided to resign as a director of Burnley Football Club due to personal reasons.
"I have loved the last 12 years, being involved with Burnley and I would hope to get back involved with this great club at some point in the future."
