Hull v Burnley and it's referee Atkinson again

Last updated : 08 May 2015 By Tony Scholes

It's not his first Burnley game at Hull. Atkinson was in charge there when we won in the Premier League five years ago and he remains the only referee to preside over a Burnley away win in this league having been referee at Stoke back in November.

Since Stoke, he upset Chelsea back in February and more recently he refereed our home game against Spurs when the assistant referees and the fourth official were the same as will be with him tomorrow.

He's refereed four games domestically since that Spurs game, three in the Premier League and the FA Cup semi-final between Reading and Arsenal.

That's taken his total number of games to 34 in which there have been 132 yellow cards and seven red cards. Of those yellows, two were in that semi-final to add to 50 to home team players and 80 to away team players.

There has been just one red card domestically since his last Burnley game and that was last week when he sent off Nedum Onuoha of QPR in their 2-1 defeat at Liverpool for a second yellow card. There were five other players yellow carded, they were Dejan Lovren and Steven Gerrard of Liverpool and QPR's Richard Dunne, Sandro and Charlie Austin.

There was some criticism over him being given the game at Chelsea just three days after he'd refereed the Schalke 04 v Real Madrid game in the Champions League, and he's been back in Europe this week, refereeing the Juventus v Real Madrid Champions League semi-final.

Martin Atkinson, at the last update, was 7th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 70.23 out of 100. He's currently one of our two most senior referees and I think we can expect better than we got from Mike Jones and Jon Moss in the last two away games.

The assistant referees are Mike Mullarkey (Devon) and Stephen Child (Kent). The fourth official is Bobby Madley (Ossett) whose last Burnley game was the home win against Derby last season.
