Howieson on bench as New Zealand lose

Coach Anthony Hudson named a much changed team with four debutants including goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic who saved a first half penalty. They turned in what was reported as an excellent and energetic performance and they were just four minutes from getting a well earned draw.

But Lee Jae-sung won it for the home side with a goal in the 86th minute to give them a 1-0 win and despite making five substitutions during the game, Howieson didn't get onto the pitch and so didn't win a ninth cap for his country.

An ex-Claret also had a watching brief tonight from the bench; Gary Cahill was an unused substitute in England's 1-1 friendly draw against Italy in Milan, but there was a 28th cap for David Edgar who played in Canada's 3-0 win against Puerto Rico in Bayamón.

Edgar's cap has been added to his page in the INTERNATIONALS feature which can be found in the Players drop down menu.
