Hooper is tonight's referee at Ipswich

The Leeds game was the third time he'd refereed us. The first was at Millwall in 2011 when he had a decent enough game but in 2013 he took charge of our 1-0 win at Charlton when he had a shocking game, allowing the home side to get away with all sorts of things, yet waving yellow cards around at Burnley players as if they were going out of fashion.

This season saw him get his first ever Premier League game and it wasn't without controversy. He was in charge of the game between Norwich and Crystal Palace when he disallowed a spectacular goal from an over head kick for dangerous play.

He's now moving into his eight season as a Football League referee; his first game coming back in August 2008 when he took the Exeter v Shrewsbury  game in League Two. He had to wait over two years to get his first Championship game; that was Swansea v Reading on this very day in 2009.

He's not usually over the top with yellow cards, averaging just over three per game. This season, in three games, he's shown four and there were none in his last game, Saturday's Championship clash between QPR and Cardiff.

Simon Hooper is currently 37th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 62.17 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Robert Whitton (Essex) and Stuart Butler (Kent). The fourth official is Football League referee Charles Breakspear (Surrey).
