Hewitt leaves Turf Moor

Hewitt was a prominent member of the youth team that reached the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup in 2011/12 season, and he made his debut as a substitute towards the end of that season in a 1-0 home win against Brighton, coming on for Charlie Austin three minutes from the end.

However, his only other first team action at Burnley was a start in the following season's Capital One Cup tie against Plymouth, when he scored from the spot in the penalty shoot out win and in December 2013 he made his last first team appearance when he came on as a substitute for Junior Stanislas in a 0-0 draw against Watford.

Other than that, his only first team action has been on loan at Alfreton and Southport, for whom he scored a spectacular goal.

Manager Sean Dyche said: "It's a sad day for Stevie. We just felt the challenge of getting into our first team was a step too far, but he has been a credit to himself and his family with his professionalism.

"He just wasn't at our current standard, but we do believe he has a future ahead of him in pastures new, so we wish him all the best in his football career."

Only Luke Conlan, who is currently on a season long loan with St. Mirren, remains at Burnley of those who featured in our FA Youth Cup semi-final against Blackburn in March 2012.
