Hewitt joins Sandgrounders

Hewitt made his Burnley debut as a late substitute in a 1-0 win against Brighton in April 2012, coming on for Charlie Austin, but has since been limited to just one more substitute appearance in the league and a start in the Capital One Cup win against Plymouth in 2012 when he scored from the penalty spot in the shoot out.

He's had one loan previously in the Conference with Alfreton and has today made the move to Southport for the next month.

He said: "I am looking forward to playing some competitive football where you are playing for points. I have been hoping for a loan more for a while and I have played in the Conference before, so I know what to expect. It is a decent level and I can't wait to go and play for Southport.

"I know their manager has been to see me play a few times and hopefully I can go there and help push them up the table."

He's expected to go into the Southport squad for their game against Torquay this weekend.
