That Everton couldn't decide, yet again, who should be taking penalties, and that it shouldn't have been a penalty in the first place is irrelevant. Heaton went down to his left to save well before Jason Shackell hooked the rebound away from danger.
On a disappointing day for the Clarets, Heaton won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings, winning both by some distance from Michael Duff who was second in both.
He polled 66.2% of the vote and it is only the eighth time this season a player has won more than 60% of any man of the match votes; this is the third time for Heaton following on from the away games at Arsenal and Liverpool.
Duff won a 19.2% share to take second place with Ben Mee claiming third place with 4.7%. That left very little for the rest of the team with all of Scott Arfield, David Jones, Jason Shackell and Kieran Trippier claiming 1.4% and a share of fourth place.
Only two players had a player rating over seven, and Heaton was the only player to pass eight. His rating was 8.46 out of 10, ahead of the 7.57 obtained by Duff. Third place in the ratings went jointly to Ben Mee and Jason Shackell who both recorded ratings of 6.50 out of 10.
That result has given Heaton the maximum ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Duff has collected six points, there are four points for Mee, three for Shackell and a point each for Arfield, Jones and Trippier.
Those points have seen Shackell move back into second place, climbing above Ashley Barnes and George Boyd, with Danny Ings now having a lead of 14 points ahead of Shackell.
