Goalkeepers on the move

Danny Coyne - signed for Tranmere
None of them come as a surprise and only nine days ago we revealed two of the deals whilst the third had been confirmed earlier and completed yesterday once his previous contract had come to an end.

That was Lee Grant who was released by Derby at the end of the season. He's moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a three year deal. Manager Brian Laws had been keen to bring in new goalkeepers and Grant was always his first choice.

Grant made his league bow against us for Derby but on the one occasion he pulled on a Burnley goalkeeper's jersey he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Leicester in November 2005. He was covering for the suspended Brian Jensen who had been sent off in the previous game at Luton.

Gavin Ward was also with us on loan, and although his stay wasn't much longer he did play in seventeen games during the 1998/99 season, Stan Ternent's first as manager at Turf Moor. There were strong rumours that he'd be signed permanently but instead we moved for West Brom's Paul Crichton. He'd been at Burnley for one game just prior to Ward joining us.

Ward was at Tranmere last season but was released and has now signed a deal with Chester. His place at Tranmere has today been taken by Danny Coyne who was released by the Clarets two months ago.

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore is delighted with the signing and said: "Danny is a top quality international goalkeeper who is well known to everyone at the club. We beat a number of Championship clubs to his signature and I honestly believe we've got the best goalkeeper in League One."

Danny had an injury ravaged time at Turf Moor and we wish him an injury free time back at his first club.
