Gazza in demand

Paul Gascoigne at Martin Keown's testimonial at the end of last season
Yesterday he turned out for Bernard Manning’s Radcliffe Borough in a pre-season friendly against the Manchester United youth team, a match the United youngsters won 2-1.

Gazza, playing as a guest, played the entire 90 minutes and helped pull in a crowd of 1,705 at Radcliffe’s Stainton Park ground.

Next Tuesday he will be joining Boston United as a player/coach and will play for them in their pre-season game against his first club Newcastle United.

Boston boss Steve Evans is considering using him as a player in the league.

Paul Weller has moved on again this week. After initially training with Conference club York he played for Luton last week in a pre-season game at Rugby. During the last week he has moved to Chester and played the first half of their game against Queen of the South at the Deva Stadium.

Over at York they still have the two former Burnley keepers training with them, Paul Crichton and Craig Mawson. It was thought a week ago that Mawson was on his way to Accrington Stanley but that no longer looks to be the case and along with Crichts is looking to win a deal at Bootham Crescent.

One former Claret who is on the verge of signing for a new club is Mark McGregor. Although he was left out of the starting line up against Darlington today, a match the Seasiders lost 2-0, he has been offered a deal by them and is expected to sign ahead of the new season.

We reported recently that Chris Vinnicombe was on the verge of signing for Tiverton Town having been released by Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season. That deal was completed during the week which will see Vinnicombe playing in the Doctor Marten’s League.

There’s still no news of David May – perhaps Accrington Stanley are still waiting for him to get back to them as they announce even more mystery Premiership players for their pre-season games.
