From reserve team football to Euro 2004

Papadopoulos split the vote amongst Burnley fans with some claiming he wasn’t good enough for first team football and others suggesting that he had suffered because of lack of opportunity during his two years at the club.

He signed in the summer of 2001 for £500,000 on a three year contract and was expected to make a big impact. However, he didn’t start a game during his first season.

He did feature more during the 2002/03 season but as Burnley were set to embark on last season he was on his way back to Greece when we sold him to Panathinaikos for a fee around £100,000.

He’s had a good season back in Greek football and his the second highest scorer in their league and having made his full international debut whilst still a Claret he has now been selected for the Greek squad for this summer’s tournament.

I’m sure his presence will create some more interest for Clarets fans should he make it into the team.
