Foy back at Turf Moor for Man United game

Last updated : 29 August 2014 By Tony Scholes

Foy was a late replacement for Mike Jones for the Leicester game and he didn't have the best of afternoons. There is no doubt that we should have had a penalty and for the second Leicester goal there was clearly a foul on Michael Duff in the build up.

He's one of the most experienced referees in the country. He will be 52 in November and was promoted to the Football League as far back as 1996 and became a Premier League referee in 2001, his first game one between Bolton and Charlton in December of that year.

He's certainly had his moments refereeing Burnley and has sent off five players although three, including two Crystal Palace players on the opening day of the 2003/04 season, have been from the opposition.

The two Burnley players he's dismissed are David Unsworth, and wrongly, in Cotterill's last stand against Hull in November 2007, and, two years later, Steven Caldwell in the 5-3 defeat at West Ham, the game when Owen Coyle blamed the referee for all five goals we conceded.

That West Ham game was one of five occasions he refereed us during our 2009/10 Premier League season, including the 3-1 home win against Sunderland.

Tomorrow will be just his second game of the season. His first was the West Ham v Spurs game on the opening day. of the season. West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate and James Collins were both yellow carded. Collins received a second yellow later in a game in which he'd already sent off Kyle Naughton of Spurs during the first half.

So two yellows and two reds from one game. Hopefully he'll have a quieter afternoon tomorrow.

The assistant referees are Mike Mullarky (Devon) and Mick McDonough (Northumberland). The fourth official is Mark Clattenburg (County Durham) who last refereed the Clarets on Boxing Day last year at Middlesbrough.
