Forgotten man Trotman back at Oldham

Trotman was an early signing for Alan Irvine when he took over the Deepdale hot seat. Irvine got the job in November 2007 and Trotman was one of his signings in the January 2008 transfer window when he paid Oldham £500,000 for his services.

In almost three years as a Preston player he's made just three league appearances and most of his football has been away from Deepdale starting with a two month loan at Colchester at the end of the 2008/09 season.

Last season he made no less than 39 league appearances in League One, spending the first half of the season with Southampton before joining Huddersfield in January and going all the way to the end of season play offs with them.

On returning to Preston he found a new manager in Darren Ferguson who promptly placed him on the transfer list. That left Trotman, as it did another former Claret in Richard Chaplow, without any football.

Chappy eventually got himself a loan to Southampton and is hoping to make that permanent to avoid a return to Deepdale. Now Trotman has gone back to Oldham, albeit for just a few weeks.

He said on returning to Boundary Park: "It is strange, but at the same time great, to be back where it all started for me. I am looking forward to playing for Latics again and hopefully I will be able to recapture the form which got me my move to Preston."

Admitting to being the 'forgotten' man at Preston, he added: "I had hoped Mr Ferguson would give me a chance, but it didn't happen. I was left twiddling my thumbs and need to be playing which is why I was happy to join Latics.

"It should not be hard to settle as a lot of the players and staff are still here from my first spell. This is where it all started after I was released by Burnley at the age of 18, and I still look for Latics' results every week."
